Generations of Computers:
First Generation of Computers (1940- 56): - These computers were based on vacuum tubes technology.
1. These computers are very large and required a lot of space for installation.
2. It generates a large amount of heat and therefore air conditioning was essential.
3. These were non portable and very slow equipments.
4. They lacked in versality and speed.
5. They were very expensive to operate and used a large of amount of electricity.
6. Since machine language was used, these computers were difficult o program and use.
The examples of first generation of computers are EDSAC, SEAC, EDVAC and IAS.
